PITTSBURGH -- On September 16, 2026, an employee was found unconscious at the Alumar smelter and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment but later passed away. The incident was determined to be a work-related fatality.
Alumar has conducted and concluded its internal investigation into the incident involving lighting maintenance at its carbon plant. Alumar is also working with its partners and relevant authorities in their investigations.
The incident underscores the importance of verifying required safety controls before any production or maintenance begins.
